Xardija’s Bajan Chicken Soup

Xardija’s Bajan Chicken Soup Recipe is a delicious household favorite. Unlike traditional broth soup, Xardija’s Bajan Chicken Soup is a full meal combined with a variety of vegetables and chicken packed with flavor.



1 Cup Yellow Spilt Peas
½ Lb Pumpkin Ripe
1 Large Chopped Onion
1 Chopped Celery Stalk
½ Cup Fresh Herbs
2 Chopped Carrots
1 Cup Chicken Soup Base
½ Cup Unsalted Butter
4 Cups Water
Salt and Pepper


1 Cup Diced Carrots
2 Diced English Potatoes
2 Cups Diced Sweet Potatoes
1 Cup Diced Seasoned Chicken Pieces
1 Cup Diced Butternut Squash
¼ Cup Chopped Marjoram
Bajan Dumplings

Bajan Dumplings

½ Cup Brown Sugar
2 Tsp Vanilla Essence
½ Tsp Cinnamon
½ Tsp Nutmeg
1 ½ Cups Flour
Salt to taste



1. In a large pot bring water to a boil, add split peas and soup base.
2. Add pumpkin, onion, celery, carrots and herbs. Simmer on medium heat.
3. Allow peas to cook until soft. Ingredients should dissolve to form thick base.

Filling and Dumplings

4. Add chicken and cook for 20 minutes
5. Add remaining vegetables and herbs. Boil until cooked
6. While vegetables are cooking start making dumplings. In a large bowl add flour, sugar, salt, spices and combine. Slowly add water and essences and mix until a stiff dough is formed.
7. Break small to large sized pieces off and roll into balls. Set aside.
8. Once all ingredients are cooked, add dumplings into soup one at a time. Cover and allow dumplings to cook for 10 – 20 minutes depending on the size.
9. Serve hot
